Hello! I'm Elizabeth, or just E, and I am bringing you one suspiciously young-looking Master! I'm in the EST time zone, but I tend to be around at erratic hours. My plurk is
detectivefiction; I can also be reached via PM to this journal.
This is L from
Death Note. In canon, he's a detective who began his career as a child prodigy and has attained a massive level of international credibility--a very smart young man with an inquisitive, intrusive, demanding bent. He's 25 at his canon point, but has the experience and success of someone twice his age, and no personal life to speak of.
"L" will be explained in the AU as a nickname for his "name," Daniel, which I'm assuming almost nobody ever uses (he'd be Mr. Valdemar, L, or the Master to most people, depending on their level of supposed intimacy). Robin Mask is his AU younger brother: L's inclinations were cerebral, while Robin's were military. I'm presuming that since no one is yet playing The Mistress, she's "away on a trip." His app and remaining AU background are
here. He will be inhaling fruit tarts faster than the kitchen can make them.
Also, a major difference from canon for now is that his posture will be unusually good in comparison to how terrible it is in canon. You'll see his characteristic slouch return as his memories do.
I have
a comment up in the chapel log, but because it's now very late in the week, he'll also have some kind of relatively open post on the next IC day. Characters who have household business might prefer to speak to him in his study when that rolls around.
A note: while the type of profiling L does in canon is not feasible in 1888 because the psychological theories behind it are either new, developing, or not yet existent, and while the Master also has no reason to be a legit profiler, L is going to be an extremely sharp and perceptive character in any AU.
I know that there are other players who need for their characters to have successfully kept certain major secrets, and I've tried to think of ways to make that possible and believable for both of us (some factors that help: he travels a lot, he's very busy when he's not traveling, he doesn't have the final say in the household, etc). His more formal profiling abilities will eventually return with his memories, but as he realizes that he's not actually Mr. Valdemar, he'll also lose any pretense of personal interest in most other characters' affairs and will be trying to direct himself more towards the metaplot mystery. Still, fire away if you have questions, etc!
ETA: Also fire away if you'd like to discuss other aspects of his current relationship with your character! For example, I'm assuming that he generally likes the research assistants but can be hard on them, that he finds Lyall reliable, and so on.
